Who's behind Bodylastics?

Bodylastics was designed in 1996 by Blake Kassel, currently the president of Bodylastics International Inc. The Bodylastics Super System was launched two years later, after several prototypes and extensive testing. It was quickly picked up by fitness magazines, and later on, by national publications like Flex Magazine, New Woman, Woman's World, Men's Exercise, Essence, Self, Fitness, Prevention, Jane, Delta Sky, Glamour, Muscle&Fitness, The New York Times, and the New York Post. Bodylastics soom became known as a groundbreaking system that could replace the home gym.

Kassel has been interested in resistance training since childhood. At age 11, he saw his first He started weight training at 13, and joined his first bodybuilding club, Madison Avenue Muscle, at 15. By 1994 he was a certified personal trainer at the National Academy Of Sports Medicine (NASM).

It was at NASM that he discovered a portable weight training tool made from surgical tubing. While the tool offered smooth resistance, it had limited resistance levels and exercise possibilities. Kassel recognized its potential, however, and set to work reinventing the resistance band.
